Survey research at County Professional Councils of Class and Geography Teachers

During May and June 2026, a survey was conducted among primary school teachers and geography teachers in three croatian traditional regions – Banovina, Moslavina and Međimurje. The research, entitled Spatial Concepts, Homeland and Traditional Region in Initial Geographic Education, aimed to determine the representation of regional, identity and heritage topics in primary school and geography teaching, and to analyze the methods of their teaching.
The research was conducted using the paper-pencil method during the sessions of the County Professional Councils for Class teaching and Geography. Before filling out the survey questionnaires, the participants of the County Professional Councils were presented with the objectives and activities of the TRIO project. The survey in the Moslavina and Banovina regions was conducted by Zdenko Braičić and Danijel Jukopila, while the research in the Međimurje region was conducted by Hrvoje Šlezak.
We would like to thank all the heads of the County Professional Councils who supported the implementation of the research: Marija Ros and Nataša Perenc Jausovec (geography) and Marko Lokner, Sanja Basta, Nikolina Požar, Sanja Rašo Čar, Marija Muža, Nataša Svoboda Arnautov, Marija Kanižaj, Ljiljana Rinkovec and Slavica Švec (primary education). Cooperation with the heads of the councils was coordinated by project team member Sanja Canjek-Androić.
